 The Benefits of Oregano Oil

Is Oil of Oregano Suitable for Pneumonia Treatment?

Pneumonia is basically an infection of the lobe of the lung or the lung tissues. The infection can be in one or both of the lungs. It is the most serious of all respiratory illnesses.

The infection causes inflammation of the air sacs (alveoli) in your lungs. These air sacs may be filled up with fluid or pus. Normally our body filters out the pathogens from the air that we breathe to protect our lungs from being infected. However, these germs manage to make us sick because our immune system is weak, the pathogen is very strong and our bodies failed to filter the germ from the air.

Causes of Pneumonia
Pneumonia is usually caused by harmful microbes. These include different types of bacteria, viruses and sometimes fungi. Since oil of oregano is proven to be an effective antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal substance, it can be effectively used as a treatment for pneumonia. It is more advantageous than pharmaceutical drugs and antibiotics because it is made of natural substances that do not leave any adverse side effects.

The Power of Oil of Oregano
Oil of oregano is effective in killing off harmful microbes because of the potent substances it contains. It is believed that these powerful substances are the result of the proper combination of the soil minerals and the climate where the source of oregano oil is taken. This essential oil is extracted from the leaves of the wild oregano plant, Origanum vulgare, which grows on the hilltops of Greece, Turkey and Portugal. Only the essential oils extracted from these plants are authentic oregano oil.

There are many phenols contained in this oil but the power of oil of oregano lies mainly in its two active components, carvacrol and thymol. These two chemical substances are the reasons for this oil’s antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties. It has been researched, tested and found to be better in killing off germs than conventional drugs and antibiotics. Pathogens almost always develop resistance to antibiotics. But these germs cannot develop resistance against oregano oil and almost always succumbs to its power.

Treating Pneumonia with Oregano Oil
There are three ways you can use oil of oregano as a pneumonia treatment.

• By using it internally – place two or three drops of this oil under your tongue. Mix it thoroughly with your saliva before swallowing. Do this three times a day.
• An alternative method is to mix two to three drops of oil of oregano with a glass of water or juice. Drink this mixture three times a day.
• You can also inhale the essence of the oil while you are sleeping. Put one or two drops of this essential oil on a cotton ball or a tissue and place it beside your pillow when you go to sleep.

Because of the strong substances contained in oregano oil, you should start with small doses first and then increasing it as your body is able to adjust. Avoid taking more than the recommended amount, otherwise your liver may be overtaxed when filtering out the excess oregano oil in your system.
