Get Rid of Ringworm with Oil of Oregano
Ringworm is a contagious disease, but it is not caused by a worm but by some species of fungi, especially
tinea. The reason it is called ringworm is because of the round red rash that appears on the skin when it is
Many pharmaceutical ointments are usually recommended for this condition. These are effective sometimes but at
other times they are not. The problem is that oftentimes they leave adverse side effects. A better alternative is
oil of oregano, since it is very effective in killing many types of fungi without leaving any side effects.
What Causes Ringworm?
This skin condition is caused by different types
of fungi that belong to the group dermatophytes. There are different dermatophytes that affect various parts
of the body producing different types of ringworms. The types of ringworm are ringworm of the body, ringworm
of the foot, ringworm of the nails and ringworm of the scalp.
People get infected with these fungi by direct and indirect contact. They get it when they have skin-to-skin
contact with an already infected person or animal. We can also get it when we touch an object that an infected
person has previously touched. This could be any object in the house, office, school or anywhere.
Ringworm on the scalp usually appears after 10 to 14 days of contact. Ringworm on the skin appears after 4 to 10
days of contact. There is no data yet on the number of days between exposure and the appearance of symptoms
for other types of ringworm.
Symptoms of Ringworm
You need to know the beginning stages of this disease so that you can
start the treatment right away.
• Ringworm usually starts as a small pimple that grows large. It leaves scaly patches which appear as
• Infected hair becomes brittle and breaks off easily.
• Sometimes, crusty skin areas with a yellowish color will develop.
• Ringworm of the body will show up initially as a flat, round patch in any skin area except the feet and
scalp. As the rash grows, its center will clear up producing the shape of a ring. Usually there will be more
than one patch, and these patches sometimes overlap.
• Ringworm on the foot is also considered athlete’s
foot. At the start it will appear as scales or cracks on the skin areas between the toes.
Ringworm is usually treated with pharmaceutical ointments and drugs. However, these treatments oftentimes have
adverse side effects. Thankfully, there are now different alternative methods using natural substances that can
fight against fungal infection. One of these is oil of oregano, an essential oil with no synthetic components.
Oil of Oregano, an Ideal Alternative
Oil of oregano is becoming more popular these days as
an effective treatment for sicknesses caused by pathogens. It is an essential oil that is derived from the wild
oregano plant, Origanum vulgare. This oil contains a powerful mix of phenols and nutrients that can kill germs and
strengthen the immune system at the same time. The substances responsible for its antifungal properties are
carvacrol and thymol. They do not just kill fungi, but bacteria and viruses also.
Treating Ringworm with Oregano Oil
For the purpose of ringworm treatment, you can mix 1 part of oil of oregano with 1 to 5 parts of virgin olive
oil. Dip a cotton wool ball into this mixture. Then apply the cotton wool ball with oreganol directly to the
affected skin area. Repeat this procedure twice a day until the ringworm disappears.
Your healing will be faster if you take this oil internally as well. Put two to three drops of this oil
under your tongue and let it stay there for a minute or two. Or you can mix two to three drops of the oil
with wate or juice.
